Today 19th death anniversary of Shahidur Rahman, the bright star of Judiciary

The name of one of the brightest stars of the judiciary of Bangladesh is Dhaka Divisional Special Judge M. A. Shahidur Rahman. He has set a unique example by performing his duties as District and Sessions Judge in Gopalganj, Satkhira and Chuadanga with efficiency, prudence and fairness. Today is the 19th death anniversary of this eminent jurist. He died on 21st february in 2004. He was 57 years old at the time of his death. He left his wife Zarifa Rahman, a son and two daughters.

M. Shahidur Rahman has not only contributed to the judicial field, he has established and patronized many mosques-madrasas and educational institutions in different areas including his own village. In particular, he set up an educational institution in his area called ‘ Quran’-e Hafizia Islamic Education‘, which continues to make a significant contribution to Islamic education in the area.

This brilliant star of the judiciary was born on 5 January 1947 in an aristocratic Muslim family in Baliadanga village of Narail district. In education, MA Shahidur Rahman completed his bachelor’s and master’s degree from Dhaka University after Daria School and Victoria Government College. After successfully completing his studies, he started his career as a judge in 1978. Later, he was appointed as District and Sessions Judge in Gopalganj, Satkhira and Chuadanga. In 1995-96, he served as Additional Registrar of Bangladesh Supreme Court with skill. Among his other responsibilities is to serve as the Dhaka Divisional Special Judge. MA Shahidur Rahman died on 21 February while serving in The Court of Settlement.

Prominent Judge M. A. Shahidur Rahman was the father-in-law of Dr. Kazi Ertaza Hassan, Editor and Publisher of Daily Vorer Pata and The People’s Time, Vice President of Satkhira District Awami League, Member of Central Industry and Commerce Sub-Committee of Bangladesh Awami League, Director of FBCCI, Founder President of Iran-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries and Chairperson of Vorer Pata Group of Industries. Dr. Kazi Ertaza Hassan requested to pray to the countrymen for forgiveness of the soul of his father-in-law.

On the occasion of the death anniversary of this eminent person, prayer mahfils have been organized in different mosques and madrasas in his own area. Besides, special prayers will be held at Kakrail Mosque today.
