Expatriate Bangladeshis will no longer have to pay charges for sending remittances. At the same time, they can send remittances even on holidays in the respective countries.

This decision was announced after the meeting of Association of Bankers Bangladesh (ABB) and Bangladesh Foreign Exchange Dealers Association (BAFEDA) at the head office of Sonali Bank on Sunday.

BAFEDA Chairman Afzal Karim said that ABB and BAFEDA have taken these initiatives to increase remittances legally amid the ongoing dollar crisis.

He said that today’s exchange meeting was like ABB and BAFEDA series of meetings. According to the decision of the meeting – from now the banks will collect remittances at Tk 107 and export income at Tk 100. Besides, the charges or commission fees for sending remittances have been waived for the convenience of expatriates. Expatriates can send remittances from Monday without any cost.

At the same time, banks have decided to keep the exchange houses open even on holidays. As a result, expatriates can send remittances even on holidays.
